Should I repair or replace my furnace?

Obviously your furnace (and air) are critical to the operation of your home and to your comfort.  If you are having difficulties with your furnace the first thing to do is give us a call, and we will be there quickly to assess the problems.  We would suggest that before you call us, you make certain that your filters are clean.  So often, we arrive and find out that filters are badly plugged and that cleaning them either fixes the problem or the lack of air has caused some serious damage to your furnace.  This is an important home-owner maintenance task.

If your furnace is less than 10 years old, it is likely that it is fairly efficient (if not very efficient) and that it’s still worth repairing.  It may well require repairs, but those repairs will be substantially less than the installation of a new furnace.  If the cost of repairs exceed what we believe is the value of your furnace then our certified technician will discuss the issues with you in detail.  You can then make an informed decision.

If your furnace is more than 15 years old, it may be worth considering a new one.  The general rule of thumb is that a furnace has a life-cycle of 15 to 20 years.   At that point our certified technician will help you to understand all the options.  Replacement furnaces are not all alike.   You may choose a highly efficient furnace with a completely variable fan that will keep your home at a perfect and comfortable temperature.  On the other hand, you may choose something less expensive that is not quite as efficient, and is more affordable with respect to your budget.  There are many options.

The important thing is that Home Comfort Canada is there to service your needs at any level.  If you feel that your furnace is mal-functioning in any way give us a call.  Your safety is a priority and we will be sure that your heating appliance is perfectly safe and functional.
